Review Guidelines
Hey Parents, We Want Your Insights!
You’re a parent, so you know how important saving time, money, and your sanity is! Pitching in with a quick review on ParentsConnect can clue other parents in on whether a local business is awesome – or just not worth the trouble.
The best reviews include helpful suggestions – business owners read them and care what you think, too! – and maybe even offer an insider tip or two. Let other parents know if it’s great for a preschooler, if your kid loved or hated it, if the staff were especially nice and let you use the bathroom. Basically, the stuff you’d want another parent or your BFF to tell you!
Feel free to write a review update if you visit the business or use the service again and have a different experience, but there’s no need to post repeat reviews that just hammer home your original point (those get annoying, don’t they?).
Can I review a business I'm connected to?
In a word: No. It’s not okay to review your own business or a business at which you have been or are currently employed. But if you want to respond to a review by a parent who’s commented on your business – to thank them or answer their concerns – please do!
What if the business I'm reviewing gave me something for free or at a discount?
Please don’t accept freebies or discounts in exchange for reviews. You want other parents to trust what you have to say, right?
If you got some kind of special treatment, gifts, or discounts, please make that clear in your review. Full disclosure makes your review more valuable and useful.
What if I had a bad experience? Can I say something negative?
If you didn’t like something, it’s your right to say so – especially if you think your experience will be helpful to other parents. Be sure to include all the relevant facts and details.
Your opinions are generally protected, but posting false information can have legal ramifications.
Does ParentsConnect ever remove reviews?
Yes. Our editors will remove a review if we believe it is:
- A conflict of interest. For example, a review written by a business to boost the ratings of their own businesses or trash a competitor. PS: Reviewers shouldn't comment on their current or former employers, either.
- A second-hand experience. Reviews must be about your personal experiences, not your friend’s, your great-aunt Alice’s or anyone else’s for that matter.
- A personal attack.
- Not relevant. You may not like a business's employment practices or political affiliations, but those things aren’t usually important to the customer experience.
- Plagiarism. Use your own words to tell us about your experience - please don't copy and paste something from another website.
- Spam. Repetitive reviews that say basically the same thing, by the same person, take up time and space.
- Blank reviews. Awarding stars without explaining why leaves other parents wondering – why? We know you’re busy, and your review doesn’t have to be the size of War and Peace (in fact, it’s just fine if it’s short – other parents have about as much time to read as you do to write!), but a few words explaining what you love or don’t love is a big help!
