The Aquatennial, held each year in mid-July and known as "The 10 Best Days of Summer," is a celebration of all those great bodies of water that have been so important in the history and development of the "City of Lakes," and which are so integral to its character.

The festival, founded in 1940, attracts more than 750,000 people, and features parades, milk-carton boat races, a sand-castle building contest, a triathlon, sailing and water-skiing demonstrations, and lots of fireworks. Events take place all over the city, with many scheduled at the Chain of Lakes and along the Mississippi.
