Florida Dance Theatre is Polk County's only professional dance company. Formerly the Lakeland Ballet, the name was changed when the company began embracing other forms of dance including modern and jazz. A second company, FDT2, is made up of talented young student dancers who are chosen through an open audition process.
The organization also oversees The Academy of Florida Dance Theatre, which provides dance training for professionals and non-professionals in ballet, modern, jazz, tap, and hip hop.
