The Bronx gets into the Halloween spirit in a big way, and we've got a growing list of free and inexpensive Halloween kids' events!
Saturday, October 9-Sunday, October 31
Tue-Fri 1:30pm-5:30pm; Sat-Sun 10am-5:30pm:
More than 500 professionally carved and sculpted pumpkins are on display at Halloween Hoorah, the New York Botanical Garden's celebration of the thrills and chills of Halloween. Kids can explore the garden on a frightfully fun journey, decorate treat bags or fall harvest bags, and enjoy rotating activities such as cider pressings (Sat-Sun, 2pm-5:30pm), applesauce making, weekend Halloween Parades, and more.(Free with admission)
Saturday, October 16-Sunday, October 31
Sat-Sun, during Zoo hours
The Bronx Zoo's annual Halloween season Boo at the Zoo features wildlife magic shows, adventures through the Haunted Safari, pumpkin carving demos, haunted hayrides, musical entertainment, recycled wildlife costume making, a hay maze, magic shows, treat stations, and more. Children wearing a wildlife costume receive free general admission with each full-priced adult general admission purchase.(All others, free with Zoo admission)
Friday, October 29
6pm-8pm:
Families are invited to take a haunted house walk through a maze created by the Hunts Point Recreation Center.
Sunday, October 31
2pm-4pm:
Kids are invited to participate in short fun run, in costume, at Van Cortlandt Park Stadium.
4pm:
Kids ages 10 to 16 can scare up some fun at Van Cortlandt House Museum's Haunted Manor House with gory historians dressed in 18th-century style. Reservations are required and admission fees apply.
