Located in the heart of downtown Anchorage, Glacier Brewhouse is a local favorite that's on every tourist's must-do list. The Brewhouse specializes in fresh Alaskan seafood, rotisserie grilled meats, and hand-crafted ales brewed right in the restaurant. With a menu that changes so often that it's printed daily, the Brewhouse manages to surprise even its most regular customers. Although not particularly child-friendly (no children's menu is available, and the atmosphere is geared toward an older crowd), this people-pleasing eatery has something for everyone. My five-year-old would rather eat at the Brewhouse than almost anywhere else. The wood-fired pizzas are delicious, and as with most salads and entrees on the menu, the staff is happy to accommodate smaller, pickier appetites with half-orders and substitutions. Appetizers and desserts range from the simple to the deluxe, and all of them are good, but the calamari and the bread pudding with Yukon Jack sauce are each something really special. The Brewhouse provides fine dining fare, but in true Alaskan spirit customers arrive in tuxedos and flannel work shirts, and both are perfect for the occasion. Reservations are not required, but if you don't want to wait for hours, they're highly recommended.
