If you want ice cream that is absolutely moo-velous, then make your way to J.P. Licks. Voted Best of Boston in 1999, it makes ice cream the old-fashioned way...rich, creamy, and wildly fattening. Its mascot, the peaceful cow, is everywhere you look; you'll find cow murals and cow statues galore. In Jamaica Plain, a proud cow sits atop the building.
You won't find ice cream as good as this in your local grocery store. Flavors like maple butter walnut await the connoisseur, but standbys like vanilla and chocolate are on hand, too.
Licks has soft-serve and hand dipped, as well as frappes and fruit slushes. You can also choose from several flavors of fat-free yogurt. Gourmet coffee, cappuccino, and espresso are also available.
If you need an ice cream cake for a special occasion, plan on getting one here. These beautifully decorated cakes resemble ones you might find in an upscale bakery. Not a Fudgey the Whale in sight.
