The Kern County Museum has been serving families around the Bakersfield area since 1941 with historical exhibits and touring exhibitions. The museum's Lori Brock Children's Discovery Center for youth eight and under offers educational programs about the state of California, Native American Life, and Frontier Life. A highlight of the Discovery Center is Kid City, a self-guided tour that features the basics of any town - a library, a bank, a doctor's office, a restaurant, a park, a theater, an ambulance and fire department, etc. Other exhibits include Lewis and Clark - Journey Across America and Art Safari - an interactive exhibit that helps children explore nature through art.
