Sweethearts of all kinds - romantic, platonic, and familial - are celebrated on February 14, and in the weeks ahead, numerous venues have scheduled plenty of events for kids to get into the lovey-dove, crafty, pink-and-red spirit. Plan ahead: Many of these events require advance registration.

The county library system has all kinds of storytimes and craft projects in the first two weeks of February. Our calendar lists all of them, but highlights include Huggable Loveable Stories at Eureka Hills Library on February 4 and 12; Roses Are Red at Daniel Boone on February 6; Valentine's Day Celebration on February 7 at Oak Bend; and two parties on the 14th - Valentine's Day Party at Cliff Cave Library and one at Grand Glaize Library.

Rockwoods Reservation kicks things off on the early side (January 24) with its Just for Fun: Early Valentine Papermaking.

Stages Performing Arts Academy hosts an interactive storytime with a Valentine theme with Stories @ Stages: The Valentine Bears on February 9.

On February 10, the Folk School of St. Louis gets into the Valentine spirit with its fourth annual benefit concert, Love Songs & Murder Ballads.

A yummy activity involving icing and sprinkles takes place at the Ellisville Straub's Culinary Center on February 10: Cupcakes Galore for Kids. Another yummy option: the hands-on exploration of all things sugary and sweet with Humpday History Series: Candy Making on February 11.

Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center thinks Valentine's Day is for the birds - in a good way! It hosts a holiday celebration for birdies and kiddies on February 12.

The Saint Louis Zoo offers a unique way to send your love to another: its Adopt a Grevy's Zebra, which can be done by mail, online, or in person.
