Built beneath Kansas City's iconic landmark to liberty, the National World War I Museum is the first and only American museum dedicated to preserving the history and memories of the Great War. The museum, which opened in December 2006, is highly interactive and poses ethical discussions pertinent to today. The Liberty Memorial was built by the people of Kansas City and dedicated in 1926 by then President Calvin Coolidge.
Besides the museum, visitors to Liberty Memorial can get the best view of the downtown skyline by taking a ride up the Tower Elevator. Admission to the tower and museum can be purchased separately or combined together for a discount.
