NASA's Ames Research Center offers some great indoor interactivity for little scientists interested in Mars; preschoolers can "explore" Mars in areas with Mars-like props and soil, and older kids can choose a specific Martian site and control interactive robotic vehicles, similar to the Mars Exploration Rovers, on a realistic Mars science mission.
getting there:
Ames Research Center is located at the southern tip of the San Francisco Bay in California. Take the Moffett Field exit from Highway 101, and turn right before the Moffett Field main gate. The Visitor Center is the white tent on the right-hand side. (Parking is around the back of the tent.)
