The Oklahoma State Capitol is the only capitol that can boast working oil wells pumping on its grounds. And, the capitol has a beautiful dome. While that fact barely registers a yawn for most states, in Oklahoma the capitol building existed without its planned for dome due to budget shortages during World War II. The effort was revived, and in 2002, the newly domed capitol was dedicated in 2002 on Statehood Day.
Three different galleries featuring temporary exhibitions by Oklahoma artists are located within the building. Guided tours of the capitol are available on the hour.
