When you really want to get away from it all, there's no better place in Kansas City to load up and take the family than Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens.
Hiking trails wind their way across streams and up cliffs, creating a challenge for the non-stroller set. And for those still in the stroller, there's still plenty of paved paths leading to beautifully manicured gardens and water features, including a fun children's garden. About 85 percent of the park's 300 acres is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of natural ecosystems.
The arboretum is a popular place for professional photographers, so don't be surprised to see families or high school seniors posed under trees!

If you're going in the summer months, don't forget the bug spray! The streams are popular for mosquitoes, too.
