More than 400 acres of Pickerington Ponds are set aside as a nature preserve, and Audubon Ohio has designated the site as one of Ohio's Important Birding Areas, with good reason: more than 260 species of birds have been sighted in the park.
But there's more to do than birdwatching at Pickerington Ponds. Four miles of trails wind through the park, and those trails are open to cyclists and rollerbladers.
Glacier Knoll Picnic Area has a shelter with electricity, grills and picnic tables; Wood Duck Picnic Area has a shelter with charcoal grill and picnic tables. Both picnic areas have separate parking lots; neither shelter is reservable.
