The Ronald McDonald Houses of Gainesville is one of more than 245 Ronald McDonald Houses in 26 countries offering support and practical assistance to families with very sick children by providing them with a safe, comforting, and inexpensive place to stay near the hospital or medical facility where their children are being treated.
For a family to be eligible to stay at the Ronald McDonald House, a member of the family, age 21 or younger, must be undergoing medical treatment at Shands Hospital, and must receive a referral from the Shands Hospital admission staff.
A $15 donation per night is requested, but no one is ever turned away for an inability to pay.
It's a safe bet that your local chapter currently has volunteer opportunities available. Individuals, families, and groups - including scout troops, youth groups, and school organizations - can volunteer to prepare a meal for house residents.

tips:
You can simultaneously teach your kids about recycling and philanthropy by collecting aluminum tabs from soda cans and donating them to your local Ronald McDonald House. The tabs are then recycled with proceeds benefitting RHMC charities. Tabs can be dropped off at the house from 9am to 9pm, seven days a week.
