It is my first summer here at YMCA on W street. The program sound so great but the sport director was not a very responsible person for the sport program. It made a difficult time for me and my children. Not a lot a communication with parents either. My children was disppointed so am I.

The YMCA offers affordable childcare at a cost. I had to pull my son out due to severe bullying that was ignored by the management and teachers. He was terrified to go to any daycare after spending just a few months at this Y. I complained to the director but nothing was done to reprimand the repeat offending bullies. The place is chaotic and dirty and several of the teachers that work with the older children talk to the children with such disrespect that it I cannot understand why they choose to work with kids in the first place. The infant room seems slightly better run than the rest of the childcare center but it too is noisy. My infant daughter only started napping regularly once I pulled her out of the Y.
We also participated on one of the biddy sports teams which was also very poorly organized.

I'm giving this Y a 3 over all because we have participated in multiple programs.
For the Biddy Sports and the Rec stuff, they are really good. The class sizes are a little large, but for beginners and for the price things are fair. Our daughter really liked the Biddy Sports programs that she did when she was 4. The coach just taught the basics of using the equipment, and some simple rules of the game that they were playing. It was a great intro into being on a team and sportsmanship.
The downside of this Y is what the other parent had stated. The after school program/Summer Camp was not that great. They are ran by the same people. While the kids get to swim regularly, and go on a weekly field trip, the students are not well monitored. On one field trip that my daughter went on, she was tricked out of her tokens by older kids. She was only 5 at the time. While she did get to use some, she didn't get to use all of them. There are always instances where older kids trick younger kids into giving them stuff. While that is a thing that kids do, there should be more supervision over what the kids are doing. As the other parent stated, there is a lot of bullying and destruction of property. I have seen children become physically violent without any reprimand, and my daughter has also been hit on a couple of occasions. Since I don't feel that it's safe to have my child there any longer, we will be pulling her out as soon as we can find another place.

At first, we were excited about the summer camp program because the kids swim three days a week and go on field trips, so it's a lot of activity at a good price. Unfortunately, we've found the staff to be apathetic; they do not enforce their disciplinary policies (i.e. bullying and destruction of personal property is rampant, with no consequences for the offenders or their parents). We will likely be pulling our daughter out of the program. Three stars for the swim lessons; one for the summer camp.
