Legoland's
Sea Life Aquarium opened in 2008 with 200 species and more than 70 Lego models. The aquarium is an impressive facility in its own right; as a side attraction to Legoland it offers a welcome refuge to escape the heat and frenetic theme park energy for an hour or two of communing with the fishies.
Imaginative displays allow kids to get in among the marine life, poking their heads into viewing bubbles inside tanks, while
touch pools allow little hands to explore under the guidance of a marine biologist. Larger tanks offer visitors unique views, including a chance to walk directly underneath circling sharks and rays.
The
Octopus' Garden is home to several playful eight-armed fellows, who hopefully never tire of a certain Beatles song played on a loop, and a sea horse room produces oohs and ahs a-plenty.
All displays are adorned with the one thing no other aquarium has: dozens of well-placed, intricately detailed Lego models. The fish in the rolling surf display need have no fear of the brickish Pelican hovering above them. Apart from tying in to the rest of the park, the models add a whimsical element amidst all of the good educational stuff.
A
daily dive takes place at 10:30 each morning, with an interactive theater for viewing and posing questions to the diver as he feeds passing rays and fish. Other feedings take place at regular intervals throughout the day; these times are
posted on the website for easy planning ahead to catch specific animal encounters.
The
Ocean Journey Cafe is a favorite dining experience in the park. Breakfast here on the aquarium's early opening days can be a great way to start a Legoland day.
Birthday parties start at $20 per child (there's a 10 person minimum) and include aquarium admission, a reserved party area, a meal, cake, an activity, and party favors. School groups are also welcome - and frequent.
Admission to
Sea Life Aquarium can be purchased on its own or as part of a park hopper ticket.
