The original tall ship Kalmar Nyckel sailed from Sweden to the New World in 1638, leaving its passengers to establish the first permanent European settlement in the Delaware Valley, the Colony of New Sweden in present-day Wilmington, Delaware.
Today, the Kalmar Nyckel serves as Delaware's seagoing goodwill ambassador, owned and operated by the non-profit Kalmar Nyckel Foundation. When the ship is not visiting other ports, she resides at the Kalmar Nyckel Shipyard on the Christina River.
Deckside tours and public sails - including Pirate Sails and other themed trips - aboard the Kalmar Nyckel are available at Dravo Plaza in throughout June and July. Daily sail departure times vary and are scheduled according to the tides. Call 1.888.783.SAIL for details.
