My daughter has attended the Rubber Room since she was two and is almost four now. I know that by the end of year she is going to be much farther along than her peers thanks to the Rubber Room. I am glad it is not a daycare....it has to be one of the best educational establishments for my child in the JBLM area. I know that my daughter will be able to attend kindergarten before other kids her age. They are actually teaching math by utilizing the Fibonacci sequence. I am not sure what that is, but my daughter does!

Edit: Tower of PISA!! This teacher does know how to spell... the children love to call it the Tower of PIZZA, which always puts them in a fit of laughter.

I, however, do realize it is PISA!! =)

As a teacher at the Rubber Room, I may be a biased party, but I really think the program Stephanie (the owner) has designed is one of the best. By having an integrated approach to learning, we are able to tailor our lessons to each child's needs. We promote based on mastery, not age, which allows a child to be neither rushed nor held back, but simply learn at his own pace. By allowing a child's natural curiosities to be the driving force in learning, the student is eager to soak up as much information as he can -- and goodness, these children soak up a TON! It amazes me, even as the teacher who is giving the lessons, the things they remember from school and retell their parents at home. It's a pleasant surprise when three-year-olds are informing others about the Tower of Piza and the Pyramids! All in all, the Rubber Room is a wonderful place for children to learn and grow!

We have been very fortunate to have the Rubber Room in our community. The owner of the Rubber Room is very talented and her background in education and curriculum is extensive!
Our younger son had an amazing first year of preschool. He was in a very warm and caring environment. The school teaches to the individual. The feedback and understanding of my child was truly spot on. He even at a age 3 participated in a science fair. Our older son also has had an a wonderful experience with the after school science and technology. He has learned Lego Robotics, science, health, art and weaving! At age 8 he dissected a frog! He currently participates in an ongoing science club. In a time of cutbacks at the public school we are so happy to have the Rubber Room as resource. A great place to check out for all ages.

My daughter has been a student at the Rubber Room since it's opening day. The school's progressive approach enables children to progress at their own behavioral and academic pace. It has empowered my child to be well ahead of her expected levels, which enables her to continue being exceptionally excited about education. She enjoys her time at the school, and is always asking when she can return when I pick her up. Everything there is geared toward teaching children to love to learn, to have fun during the process, and to look at their world as an opportunity to discover new things. We will miss the school when she ages-out, but know that it has prepared her for a strong foundation upon which we will continue her education.

The Rubber Room is primarily a preschool and kindergarten (far more than a play space as described on this site) and they do an amazing job at educating young children. I am continously impressed and surprised with the customized approach given to each child which so effectively maximizes on their strengths and builds on areas needing extra assistance. My child has learned so much more than I would have expected at his age, and in less than a year at the Rubber Room, and I cannot imagine a more ideal place (or staff, including the owner who has truly superior credentials) for parents looking to provide the best possible learning and nurturing environment to their young children.

I had my son in a couple of other local preschools before enrolling him at the Rubber Room and feel the academy has better materials, instruction and supervision than the other schools he attended. The materials are really engaging and educational, not just "toys.". I also really love the positive and constructive atmosphere at the Rubber Room which is reflected in the low turnover rate of teachers and families. I was hoping to find a school that would stimulate my son's interest in learning and where he would be appreciated as an individual, and we have found that here. I really feel his learning experience is tailored to who he is as a person and I am impressed with how much he has grown and learned. He comes home with marked improvement in his writing and even teaches me sign language. Learning from older children and being mentored by them has been such a constructive experience for him as well. There is always something exciting going on at the school and the range of interests and activities is wide (guest musicians, technology programs, puppet shows, etc.). For those who are looking for a well-rounded program in which their children will be appreciated for who they are and learn by leaps and bounds without too much pressure or unrealistic expectations, this is the place to be.

I currently have two children enrolled at the Rubber Room and our family couldn't speak more highly of this school. The owner and director is very kind and oversees the educational needs of each student so well. She has done a great job of staffing this school. Each of the teachers are great with the children. My two children are quite different in personality and learning style and I feel that the school has adapted very well to their individual needs. There have been multiple times in the past two years of being a part of this school that I have been blown away by the things my children have been taught. Things I would never have imagined they were ready to learn. And there is a love for learning that my children have picked up on there that I hope they never lose. My hat goes off to the owner/director and staff of the Rubber Room for the great job that they do! THANKS!

Integrated Reggio Emillia, Montessori and National Standards approach.
3 - 5 students to each teacher. In addition to core content- the students participate in music and ASL classes every day.
Each student has their own education plan that is monitored and adjusted as they go along (parent input is included and expected)
They promote on mastery - not age- so classes are integrated with all ages (the standard for Montessori Models)
The application process is thorough.
It is a small school with very little turn over- so the director is careful to match placements with families.
I have had two students there (one for three years now my youngest is starting)
My older children have attended all their physics, engineering, robotics and arts camps.
I have not ever seen such a program- anywhere- the owner brings in live music, outside programs- and not just once a year- but every week something magical is happening at school.
The staff is amazing- the owner is organized, direct and kind.
If this school is what you are looking for- you will be excited when you see it.
The only disparaging notes I have ever heard are from individuals that have never had children in the programs.
If you are unfamiliar with Montessori or Reggio models- read up a bit before your initial interview- then the whole model will make sense!

It was just ok, had high expectations given the marketing of it as a math and science academy. In reality its more of a basic playschool. Owner Stephanie put us off a bit and was very defensive of her program when we asked questions about older children in classes with younger ones.
