A great campground located near north Kansas City, Watkins Mill State Park offers a great all-in-one stop for visitors, centering around the Watkins Woolen Mill State Historic Site.
The mill is the only 19th century textile mill in the US with its original machinery still intact. The Visitors Center and Museum features exhibits on the the woolen mill and the impact of industrialization on every day life. A fee is charged for the mill.
Back at the state park, visitors can find a small lake with a paved bike path around it, perfect for little ones as it's fairly flat. There's also a sandy swimming beach, fishing, and plenty of campsites available for both tents and RVs.
