Adagio Hotel, like every Joie de Vivre hotel, offers welcoming staff, lovely non-smoking rooms, and charming special touches.

What we love best about Adagio is the light and spacious feeling and all the decorative designer flairs. The minute we walked off the streets of Union Square into the lobby, we noticed the gorgeous arched floor-to-ceiling windows, fun modern lamps, and rounded furniture. As well, original black-and-white nature photos throughout the hotel add serenity and warmth.

We were greeted cheerfully, asked if we needed anything at all, and shown to our room - a standard two-queen, decorated in soothing hues of green, cream, and beige. My son immediately set out all his books, claiming the fabulous extra-long work space that is twice the length of a typical desk. I plopped down into the sitting chair, which was as comfortable as it was lovely. (Not always the case!). The room also had a fun pumpkin-colored desk chair, flat screen cable television (Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Showtime, etc), and mini-bar stocked with snacks and chilled drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). Rollaway beds and cribs are available in some rooms; inquire when you book the reservation.

The bathroom was small, but extraordinarily clean and well-designed, with tile floors, a shower/tub combo, vanity table, make-up mirror (what, no light?!), thick cotton towels, and spunky red shower curtain.

Other amenities include: complimentary WiFi, a Keurig coffeee maker with Newman's Own Coffee, a small in-room safe, ironing board and iron, CD player with iPod adaptor, two lush robes (ahhh!), and - parents you'll love this - literally eight pillows! (I don't know about your kids, but my son loves surrounding himself with pillows and making a cozy fort).

As well, there is a 24/7 Fitness Room, bell hop services, Business Center, same-day laundry service, traveler check cashing service, free morning paper, and an incredibly helpful concierge - at the ready to assist with everything from performance tickets, to sight-seeing suggestions, to medical information.

In-room dining is available from 7am until 10:30pm and Bar Adagio is located on the property. Bar Adagio offers appetizers, salads, panini and burgers, pizzas, and some very yummy desserts.

Hotel Adagio is located in the center of Union Square, within walking distance of shopping, theater, dining, and museums. Guests are close to Chinatown, the Financial District, North Beach, Nob Hill, and SOMA.
