Hi! I'm one of the instructors at Aikido Florida Aikikai. One of the reviewers on this page took away two stars "for an over emphasis on playing games and on learning Japanese and for lack of structure and clearly set and enforced rules." At the time the review was made (over 5 years ago) we had some new instructors and were playing around with our curriculum. I agree with how the reviewer described us back then, but it always bothers me when I check this page and see that it's the most current review!! Our classes are fun, structured, focused on martial arts, and we often receive compliments about our level of discipline. I hope nobody minds me coming on here and adding my two cents, I just hate the idea of a family never trying our school based on what they read here! Bring your child in for a trial class and see for yourself... Thanks, Helen.
The good points of this school is that they emphasize learning one technique a month so that the children can learn it, the school is run by a high ranking Sensei, and the facilites are very nice. I take two stars away for an over emphasis on playing games and on learning Japanese and for lack of structure and clearly set and enforced rules.
My two daughters went to this summer camp last year and decided to continue with aikido at this dojo year-round. It has been excellent for their self-esteem as well as a great outlet for them to learn advanced problem-solving and self-control.
This Aikido dojo teaches children of all ages how to respect themselves, as well as others, by using their self-control and discipline--and they learn it all while having fun, helping each other, getting excerise, and building pride in themselves!
