Originally the Florida retirement home of internationally acclaimed sculptor Albin Polasek, this beautiful museum in the heart of Winter Park provides an afternoon of sophisticated sculpture highlighted by lush gardens and natural backdrops.
About 200 of the 400 works created by the Czech-born artist are on display around the Albin Polasek Museum, including his signature, award-winning sculpture, Man Carving His Own Destiny depicting a man carving himself from a block of stone.
There's something to see around every corner of the lakeside gardens, including classical and mythological sculptures that older kids will recognize from their studies. Additional works of art can be found in the Main Gallery, Residence, and Chapel, which is also a popular place for weddings and events.
The feeling of the property is much more like visiting a really well decorated friend's house than that of a "traditional" museum experience. School tours and home school tours are available, though, for a more structured experience.
Summer Camps: The Polasek Summer Art Camps offer a highly creative experience for children ages eight to 12. The themed sessions are focused on the individual student in a small group setting and are limited to a maximum of 12 students per session. Campers hold an exhibit of their works in the East Gallery and can invite their friends and family to a reception in their honor at the close of each session. Register in advance; spaces fill quickly.
