The Dino Dig sandbox and replicas of fossilized dinosaurs (including a giant triceratops skull that children run through) at the 20-acre Aliante Nature Discovery Park are perhaps the biggest hits among those six and under. The playground is fully fenced and features big-kid slides, a tot area, and water play with sprinklers.

Outside the fence, families can stroll around the man-made lake (complete with waterfalls) and visit the park's duck residents. Soccer fields and volleyball stadium attract older children. In warmer months, the park hosts outdoor movies and music festivals.

The park also has two gazebos available for rent for family birthday parties or other small events involving less than 100 people. Reservations must be made at least 30 days in advance for a picnic rental and 60 days in advance for a special event rental. Fees are $75 per hour.

tips:

Do not bring "treats" for the ducks or any other critters in the park; feeding the animals is a no-no and security gueards will stop you.

Security guards over step their bounds and tell you all toys can not be in area when other are playing with sand toys.

For the size of the playground area I was surprised to see that only the tot area had a partial canopy style covering. It was extremely hot for both parents and kids, unless you wanted to get wet along with the kids. My 6yo didn't even want to play in the big sand pit because it was burning hot. Only one section of picnic tables had a pavillion covering, the rest were in the hot sun. I will give this playground a second try, but never again in the summer months.

Weak attraction for those with tots, older kids 6+ will like the play towers (signs with 6yr and height requirement - no sure how strictly enforced it is but seemed a bit excessive). Jam packed with people, sand was filled with garbage/cigs as noted and was not a fine sand that is fun to play in. Not a covered park so sand and play areas bake. Water area seemed ok.

This is a great park for kids of all ages. My little guy can have fun while my older daughter can do her own thing as well. It is very secure and large. Perfect for parties or play dates.

...clearly openly yelling and snarling at several women and children today. This is a disappointment to a GREAT park to see such an angry attitude for children and a family environment.

I went today and was shocked to see the security guard yelling at women and scaring girls. . . what a way to make things secure. Such a nice park should have such as nice a security guard to match ...everything can't be perfect?!

I love that the park is fenced, has a restroom, water play, and that you can feed ducks. . .the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the sand in the "dino dig" was filled with cigarette butts and other garbage. Also, I wish the tot play structure was bigger.

This is one of our favorite parks. It has so much to offer and the water feature is wonderful in the summer. It is also gated, which make it easier to keep track of the little ones.
