The American Tap Dance Foundation, a non-profit tap dance company founded by dancers Brenda Bufalino, Tony Waag, and the late Charles "Honi" Coles, is committed to establishing tap as a vital component of American heritage.
ATDF youth programs offer specialized tap training for children and teens, focusing on the fundamentals of rhythm tap, including clean technique, classic and contemporary tap repertory, and improvisation skills. Tap history, films, jazz music, and special guests round out the program. Classes offered range from Creative Rhythms Pre-Tap, a creative movement class for little ones ages three and a half to four, to Junior Ensemble for aspiring performers ages eight and up - a perfect prep course for students who wish to audition for the Tap City Youth Ensemble in the future. Beginning Tap for Teens and Adults is open to students ages 13 and up.
The Gregory Hines Youth Scholarship Fund offers financial assistance to serious tap students, ages seven to 19, based on financial need and merit. Applications are available on the ATDF website.
