The best and most breathtaking reason to stay at the
Amicalola Falls State Park Lodge?
Magnificent views of the North Georgia mountains from just about any area of the building. The clean and comfortable accommodations are a great home base for exploring the trails and falls, and we found the staff to be friendly and helpful at every turn. Room choices include standard rooms with double or king beds, junior or king suites, and private cottages with full kitchens, which are situated on the mountainside and along Amicalola Creek. Arriving in the lobby close to sunset on an early November day, our group was amazed at the brilliantly colored foliage we saw through the floor-to-ceiling-windows. An outdoor patio - complete with rocking chairs - is an ideal place to look out across the trees. The lobby features a huge stone fireplace with comfortable seating surrounding it, where families can play board games or participate in
wildlife encounters led by a park naturalist (during our visit, we saw a program about owls and snakes.) Adjacent to the lobby is the Maple Restaurant, which serves buffet Southern-style food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Apart from the lobby shop - which sells sundries, mementos, and other gifts - there aren't any other options for eating at the lodge. But, when one of our little travelers wanted "just a little something" two hours past our mealtime, the hostess allowed us to grab a biscuit and jelly from the buffet at no charge. Green elements are present throughout the hotel, from strategically placed recycling bins to the shampoo, conditioner, and soap dispensers in the bathrooms that cut down on plastic container waste. But getting away here doesn't mean being you have to be fully unplugged.
Free wireless is available throughout the lodge. We found connections to be better in the main lobby and at the tables on each floor's hallway than in the guestrooms. The lodge's location is a short, easy walk to the top of the falls, and adjacent hiking trails, and a small playground is at the top of the parking lot.
