To refer to Applebee's as a "restaurant chain" would be a whopping understatement: its 1,930 locations in 49 states and 16 international countries makes it the largest casual dining concept in the world. While that might prove an instant turn-off to families seeking a unique dining experience, the folks at Applebee's strive to provide local flavor at each neighborhood restaurant, displaying photographs and memorabilia highlighting hometown heroes and history, area schools, and local police and fire departments. The food, however, is pretty much the same across locations, which is a bonus when dealing with finicky kiddos. The Kids' Menu offers the standard selections: chicken fingers, cheeseburgers, macaroni and cheese, and grilled chicken sandwiches. Entrees come with a choice of steamed broccoli, celery with ranch dressing, applesauce, or fries. Adults can select from wraps, burgers, sandwiches, and salads. Signature dishes include the House Sirloin, Oriental Chicken Salad, Fiesta Lime Chicken, and those popular - if somewhat bland - Riblets. The menu also features special Weight Watchers selections that provide detailed nutritional information. Prices are fairly reasonable, and portions are generous. High chairs, booster seats, and changing stations are readily available.
