about Armory Center for the Arts - Classes:

These wonderful classes, available for children of all ages, encourage students to appreciate and understand contemporary art, while they are creating it. The current exhibits in the Armory Gallery become the inspiration for the students' work. Pre-school and beginning classes are play-filled introductory classes that rely on young children's vivid imaginations, while challenging their artistic abilities. Classes explore drama, dance, print-making, or specific subjects, like the ocean, homes, or animals. Classes meet one day a week, Mon-Thu 3:45pm-5:15pm, and cost $150. Children must be toilet-trained. Classes are limited to ten students. Children ages 6 to 11: These offer a broader and more challenging experience, with a wider variety of materials, and a more analytical and historical approach to looking at art. Kids can focus on drama, puppet-making, printmaking, pop-up books, robots, or sculpture. Classes meet one day a week, Tue-Fri 3:45pm-5:15pm, and cost $150. Ages 11 to 4: More in-depth creative expression is encouraged in a longer class time (two and a half hours), and historical and cultural contexts of art are explored. The ten-week session meets one day a week, Mon-Thu 3:30pm-6pm and costs $150. Ages 15 to 18: Classes allow students an opportunity to experience a wider array of art genres. Topics range from painting and drawing to "zine scenes". Armory Art High classes for middle school and high school students are offered free of charge. Some tuition assistance is available; call 626.792.5101 Ext. 121 for more information.
