About Art Institute of Chicago

Young visitors to the Art Institute of Chicago are often captivated by the museum before even entering the doors when they are greeted at the entrance by two large, endearing bronze lions! Inside the museum, which boasts one of the world's great art collections, La Grande Jatte by Seurat, American Gothic by Grant Wood, and many, many other well-known, well-loved pieces can be found displayed throughout the many galleries, hallways, and showcases.

The Kraft Center at the Art Institute offers numerous exhibits and creative, hands-on activities and workshops for children and families.

Enjoy a meal surrounded by art. The Café offers self-service dining, including a kid-favorite dessert station with a full array of homemade treats. The Garden Restaurant boasts table-side service, with a full bar and a wine list. Reservations at the Garden restaurant are accepted but not required. Call 312.553.9675. From late May through early fall, weather permitting, the Garden Restaurant extends into McKinlock Court for shady alfresco dining.

Family memberships are available. See website for details.

Expensive for tourists and poorer folks which is a fast growing number these days. I recommend to out-of-towners to go to Washington DC where you can view wonderful art for FREE.
