As an arts incubator promoting the development of visual arts and artists, ArtCenter is an important resource for South Florida's cultural life. Through its policy of open studios and free admission, ArtCenter exposes the public to the artistic process on a daily basis, helping promote the idea that everyone can be connected to the creative energy of art-making. Every second Thursday of each month, ArtCenter artists open the doors of their studios to the general public with an invitation to get to know them personally. This is your chance to meet your favorite artist, learn about their creative process, become a collector, and think about experimenting with art in your own life. Open Studios are held in conjunction with Miami Beach "Second Thursdays," during which every cultural venue on Miami Beach is open from 7pm-11pm. ArtStudies for Kids are offered for children ages six through 16 (older teens may wish to register for adult classes). Sessions generally run once a week for six weeks, at a price of $140 for members and $155 for non-members. ArtCamp offers eight weeks of visual and performing arts fun for kids ages six to 14. Age-appropriate classes are taught by professional artists who are experienced teachers, and small class sizes and talented staff create an atmosphere for learning, creativity, and enjoyment. Activities include painting, sculpture, collage, printmaking, clay, photography, music, jewelry making, drama, storytelling, poetry, creative movement, cartooning, bookmaking, and fiber arts. Campers should dress for mess! An extra t-shirt as a smock is recommended. Campers bring a bag lunch. Dual/Family Membership is $50 a year, applies to two adults and children up to 18 years old, and includes two personalized membership cards and discounts on ArtStudies Just for Kids and ArtCamp tuition.
