about Ashkenaz Music & Dance Community Center:
Ashkenaz Music & Dance Community Center is a nonprofit music and culture venue that specializes in presenting live world and roots music.
Music and dance programs include African, Balkan, Brazilian, Cajun/Zydeco, Carribbean, Middle Eastern, Reggae, American roots from Bluegrass to Swing, and more.
Ashkenaz presents special shows for children on Sunday afternoons; most are participatory, and kids are encouraged to dance, sing, and join in the fun.
tips:
All Ashkenaz shows are all ages, and children 12 and under enter free to all shows except kids' shows such as Soggy and Silly Sundays.
For evening shows that may be too loud for children, earplugs are available for free at the Ashkenaz cafe.
Healthy snacks are available at the Ashkenaz cafe, along with juices, kombucha, and adult drinks (beer and wine only).
getting there:
Ashkenaz is located on San Pablo Avenue, at Gilman Street. (Southeast block, about 4 businesses south of Gilman St on San Pablo Ave)
Driving: Gilman Street is an exit off the I-80. Exit, travel east to San Pablo Ave, and park.
Public transportation: North Berkeley BART is 3/4 mile away. Bus lines stopping within 1 block: AC Transit 72 & 72R, 52L, 9, 800 Allnighter.
Bicycles: Encouraged! We have 2 bike racks and 8 bike rings along the front of the building. Please bring your lock.
