We had a miserable experience at Asian Pacific Language School. The teachers were unprofessional. Many of them were from mainland China, so the classes were run in a very strict Chinese style. A lot of them also had very little preschool teaching experience. They had no patience, and often took out their frustrations at young children. My child was in the 2.5 to 3 years old class, and he was not fully toilet trained. But when we went to pick him up, his diaper was not changed and it was dirty a lot of times. We were disappointed, because we paid the school extra fee for our non-potty trained child, but his diaper was soiled most of the times. When we reported this problem to his teacher, Jennie Li, she was very offended and lied to us. After that, we could not trust Jennie anymore. She sounded like a cruel teacher who shouldn't teach preschool children. It was shocking that APLS could still keep its license!

TEACHING STYLE:
Not helpful to non-native speakers. I do see native speaking Mandarin Chinese children getting more attention and benefit out of the class. Non-native speakers seem to be disciplined harsher than the native speakers.

LOCATION:
School does not have their own building. They rent out a church basement adjacent to a foodbank that serves low income and homeless. The play area is a cement and bark with a view of more cement â?? no natural greenery to speak of.

ADMINISTRATION:
Lack of English fluency of the teachers makes communication difficult. High turnover of teachers in 2013. Three staff quit at one time. Replacement teacher in one room not cited to having any previous teaching experience. Lack of organization â?? school calendar not published until well after the school year. School Director does not treat members of the PTA with respect â?? yells at them same way her teacherâ??s yell at kids.

MATERIALS:
Scant amount of toys or cognitive materials to help develop the child's whole brain. If you sign onto this school your child will be doing lots of lots of worksheets.

In the last couple of months things have really improved. A couple of new teachers have signed on and things are really starting to click. The activities at school are exciting and their Moon Festival was a lot of fun - there were trains everywhere! Can't wait to see what Winter brings...
