Atlanta's Cyclorama is the vivid retelling of the battle of Atlanta via a 360-degree painting, 358 feet in circumference. Visitors view the 42-foot-high painting from seats on a revolving platform as sound and light effects, narration, and 3-D figures heighten the experience of watching the battle. Highlights of the painting include the recreation of the heavy fighting in the vicinity of the Troup-Hurt house, Old Abe, the bald eagle mascot of a Union regiment, an ambulance carrying Manning Force to a field hospital after being wounded in the face, and a plaster-of-paris mannequin bearing an uncanny likeness to Clark Gable. A film documenting the history of the Atlanta Campaign leading up to the battle is narrated by James Earl Jones. Before leaving, peek at "The Texas," a War era train, in the Civil War Museum. Fast food is available nearby, or enjoy a picnic lunch in
Grant Park.
Atlanta Cyclorama is closed New Year's Day, Martin Luther Kings Jr.'s Birthday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.
