About Ballet with Miss Tilly

Any local listing would be remiss to exclude Miss Tilly's, but a word of warning: She does no advertising (she's not even in the phonebook), and her classes are almost always full and have waiting lists due to her sterling word-of-mouth reputation and long standing in the community. She holds recitals each May at the Herbst Theater. Ballet with Miss Tilly also offers a Theatre Arts Program that includes singing, performing, and pretending for children ages three to seven years old.

Tips

While her classes are popular, Miss Tilly insists she can usually make room for just about anyone - it may just take a while.

Getting There

The studio is located at the corner of California Street & 17th Avenue. Street parking is generally available. Muni 1, 38

I had no problem with phone calls being returned. I originally called in the Spring of 2007. My call was returned by Miss Tilly. It turned out that my daughters attend a preschool that lets out too late to attend one of Miss Tilly's weekday classes. I was contacted this fall by both phone and email when a Saturday class was added to the schedule. It is a different instructor, but my girls love going and wearing their beautiful pink clothes. I am very happy with the program and communication, and my girls are having a wonderful time.

I tried 3 times to get in touch with Miss Tilly's. I left 3 messages requesting a return call and a brochure sent to me. I NEVER received a call back. I don't care how "popular" they are, that is just rude. We ended up going to another school.

I called to try and get my child on the waitlist for classes with Miss Tilly and was asked what preschool he went to. I told them that we were in the application process for preschools. They said to email the information, as the preschool would tell them which day to waitlist. I sent an email requesting to be put on the waitlist for Tuesdays. They emailed back requesting, again, the name of the preschool. I wrote back and asked why it mattered so much, that we weren't sure yet, but to please put my child on the waitlist for Tuesdays. I never heard back. I think the school is segregating... I wonder if they only take kids from the "best" preschools. I'd love to give them the benefit of the doubt, but never heard back!
