Battery Park City Day Nursery is a private non-sectarian preschool, licensed by the New York City Department of Health, and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
Private tours are given throughout the year, and applicants are not interviewed or pre-tested. Parents interested in a July or September start date may apply as early as February 1, and preference is given to families currently enrolled or on the current year wait list. New children are admitted on a first applied basis. Although most children start in September, the school does enroll throughout the academic year as long as space is available.
The Nursery has seven bright, sunny classrooms, all located on the ground floor. A private, enclosed backyard is equipped with climbing toys, tricycles, and a playhouse.
The Full Time Program is from 8am to 6pm, the Morning Program is from 8am to 12n, and the Afternoon Program is from 2pm to 6pm. Children may enroll for two, three, four, or five days per week. The academic year begins in September and continues through the end of June, with a summer camp session during July and August. The Nursery observes national holidays and teacher in-service days, and is closed for a weeklong vacation during the months of December, and for two weeks at the end of August.
The summer camp program, offered during July and August, includes special visitors, nature studies, cookouts, water play in the backyard, and thematic celebrations. Picnics are planned during excursions to the local parks; children ages four years and older can take field trips away from Battery Park City. Monthly, weekly and half-day children are welcome.
