The Battleship
New Jersey, built in 1940 in the Philadelphia Navy Yard, now serves as a floating museum on the Delaware River. Visitors may tour the ship on their own, or take a guided tour.
The
Firepower Tour is the deluxe tour. It highlights the BB 62's weapon's systems and areas not seen on the regular tour, including the Combat Engagement Center (CEC). Firepower tours run daily.
Most kids will be eager to try the
4-D Flight Simulator, which gives visitors a virtualc reality experience of piloting a Seahawk propeller plane over Iwo Jima while dodging anti-aircraft fire and engaging in a dog fight. Rides on the 4-D Flight Simulator require an additional fee.
Families and youth groups can also spend a night aboard the
Battleship during an
Overnight Encampment Program - winner of an "Excellence in Tourism" award at the New Jersey Governor's Conference on Tourism - offered on Friday and Saturday nights throughout the year. Children must be at least six years old to participate in this program. Admission includes dinner and breakfast served from the chow line, an after-hours tour of the ship, a ride on the 4-D Flight Simulator, and a bunk in the crew's berthing compartment. For more information, call 856.966.1652, ext. 203.
