about Bessie Benner Metzenbaum Park:
This park in Chester Township offers three hiking trails through an old orchard and beech-maple forest. Two of the three trails are accessible to wheelchairs/strollers; the third offers an invigorating climb up about 140 feet to reach a rewarding scenic overlook.
The park's small playground was designed to be enjoyed by people of all abilities. A boardwalk along the Griswold Creek Trail may provide a glimpse of a beaver; if your footsteps scare the beaver away, you'll certainly see evidence of their handiwork along the way. Benches along the trails allow birdwatching opportunities; several shaded picnic tables make this a nice lunch spot.
Facilities include restrooms and a picnic shelter on the east side of the parking lot.
getting there:
Exit I-271 at Route 322, heading east 4 miles into Chesterland. Turn right onto Route 306, proceed one mile, then turn right onto Cedar Road. The entrance is on the right, past the Bessie Benner Metzenbaum Sheltered Industries and Opportunity School.
