The original Blithewold was a large, shingled, Queen Anne-style mansion. The 45-room mansion was furnished with beautiful antiques and reproduction furniture. The second Blithewold, built after the original mansion was destroyed by fire, was much grander, designed by the Boston architectural firm of Kilham and Hopkins.
Today, visitors experience breathtaking views of Narragansett Bay and see the mansion decorated with original furnishings just as it was when the family lived here. The grounds feature magnificent trees and a variety of exquisite gardens.
The mansion offers its Buds and Blossoms summer camp for children ages six to 11. Each one-week program emphasizes the interaction of plants, animals, humans, and the environment. Campers take part in a mix of games, art projects, and physical activities on the grounds of Blithewold that focus on a different theme each week.
Celebrate your child's birthday at Blithewold Mansion with a party that can be tailored to any age. Parties are available Saturdays & Sundays, or by special arrangement.
