This bustling buffet is tucked away on the ground floor of
Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and offers kids and parents alike the chance to sample unique breakfast and dinner offerings from a different corner of the world - Africa!
Boma - Flavors of Africa offers a wealth of food choices, so the odds are good that even the most selective child will leave the restaurant fully satisfied. Reservations (or, in Disney-speak, "
priority seatings") are strongly recommended at this very popular restaurant, although walk-ins are accommodated on a first come, first serve basis. Just check-in at the podium with one of the Cultural Representatives. Once seated, servers immediately take drink orders and give the buffet "lay of the land" before sending you on your culinary way. For a sweet breakfast treat, request a glass of
Boma's version of
West African Frunch Juice (a combination of lemonade, pineapple juice, guava juice, orange juice, and papaya juice). Breakfast items include scrambled eggs, bacon, and roasted potatoes. Kids tend to gravitate toward the
Belgian waffles and palm-sized pancakes, but adventurous types of all ages can also sample the the quinoa (African grain cereal), African Pap (a white corn meal with selection of toppings), Bobotie (a mixture of corned beef, eggs, potato and onion), unique pastries, and an amazing pork loin with a hint of cinnamon. Dinner items are just as diverse. From cous cous to seafood stew, many items have a North African flair, and all are tasty. Kid favorites include the different soups and
macaroni and cheese, and the prime rib and roasted chicken are particular adult favorites. Save room for
Boma's signature dessert the
zebra dome, a delicious amarula mousse with chocolate ganache stripes.
High-chairs and plastic utensils are readily available, as are crayons and an activity page for those who need extra entertainment. The atmosphere is laid-back and naturally family-friendly. As a result, the restaurant can get quite loud at peak times when all of the tables are full. Prices cover the all-you-can eat buffet and include non-alcoholic, non-specialty drinks.
Bathrooms are directly outside the entrance to the restaurant, with designated changing areas in both the men's and women's facilities. Families with strollers can use the elevators to get to the ground floor of the hotel.
