Built as a Company store in 1836,
Boston Store is now a
canal boat building museum, featuring exhibits on all aspects of that business. Kids (and grown-ups) can really appreciate the scale models of canal boats, displayed as frame-ups, so as to reveal their intricate internal designs.
Upstairs, a large public meeting room is available for groups, by reservation. For information, visit
www.nps.gov/cuva or call 800.657.2909, ext. 119.
The museum is also a great park-and-ride spot in the
Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Because Boston Store's parking lot is shaded, and situated right next to the Towpath Trail, it's an ideal place to start a
family bike ride...and maps are available both inside the museum and out, at the information kiosk between the museum and MD Garage.
MD Garage, immediately west of Boston Store, is a restored 1940s gas station. Now rehabilitated, it is used for meetings, art shows, and other special events. (Call 216.524.1497 or 800.445.9667 for more information.)
