about Brian Piccolo Park:

As of Oct. 1, 2009, the park is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays due to budget constraints. Piccolo Park remains open from 5pm-10pm on Wednesdays. Check the Broward County website for additional details.

This 180 acre park, named in honor of Brian Piccolo, the late football star who grew up in Broward County, is loaded with sports facilities. Here you can play basketball, cricket, bike, fish, play softball, soccer or football, skateboard, in-line skate, ride BMX bikes, play tennis, racquetball, and party in the abundant picnic facilities or shelters with nearby playgrounds.

All playing fields require reservations. There is a usage fee.

The plentiful picnic areas with grills are used on a first come first served basis. One pavilion, which can accomodate 80-120 people, is available for rental.

This is a great place to spend the day and bring a picnic, or you can purchase food at any of the three snack bars throughout the park.

The Skate Park/Velodrome Center offers ramps and courses for skateboarding, in-line skating, and BMX biking (Tuesday evenings only). This area is open 3:15pm-9:45pm weekdays, 10:45am-9:45pm Saturdays, and 10:45am-7:30pm Sundays.

The banked cycling and in-line skating track is perfect for those with the need for speed. Full protective equipment is required for skating (helmet with pads) and cycling and can be rented for $9. Skates can be rented for $5. The fee for use of this facility is $7 per two hour block (two hour sessions start at opening time and continue through day). If you'll be wheeling it often, the $25 6 - month membership fee is worth it. Once a member, the fee for use of the Velodrome facility is only $3 per two hour session.

If your group would rather enjoy a leisurely bike around the park, check out one of the three paved loops that encircle different areas of the park.
