About Buckle My Shoe - 40 Worth Street

This huge, sunny day care facility is hopping with happy children. With a curriculum based on Reggio Emilia, Buckle My Shoe has been around since 1981 and is still going strong. The center's Infant/Toddler program has a teacher/child ratio of 1:3 and offers plenty of choices, from a school day schedule of 8am to 3pm, five days a week, to shorter stretches (9am-12n, 8:30am-1pm, 1pm-6pm) two or three days a week. Children may begin at the age of three months. A preschool program offers the same menu of hours. The Summer Program gives working parents additional coverage during the months of July and August, and children get plenty of time outdoors at nearby Washington Market Park. Buckle My Shoe also offers a French Curriculum, if you'd like to help your child develop an ear for languages at an ideal early stage. Yoga is also available at this location. Sign up for a school tour by calling the number above.

Buckle My Shoe took great care of my infant son from when he was 4 months to 7 months old . It was very difficult for me to go back to work but the Lady Bugs Staff eased my mind especially with the daily reports (food consumed, soiled diapers, playtime activities, etc.) that I received. I was able to breastfeed him upon pick up and ask as many questions as I wanted without being made feel as though I was neurotic. I treasure the little hand prints and my first mother's day card that he created for me! Thanks BMS!

This school has some good points and good intentions, but they have a lot of staff turnover. I don't think the teachers get the support needed for a quality environment. There are quite inexperienced teachers in charge of some classrooms, and they don't have the necessary skills to positively manage young children. They also don't seem to deal well with differences between girls and boys and particularly the differences in the sort of activities that interest them.

I have heard that staff does not last very long. Any ideas why?
