about Buffalo Zoo:

Founded in 1875, the Buffalo Zoo is the third oldest zoo in the United States. Each year, the Zoo welcomes approximately 400,000 visitors and is the second largest tourist attraction in Western New York, second only to Niagara Falls.

Located on 23.5 acres of Buffalo's beautiful Delaware Park, the Zoo exhibits a diverse collection of wild and exotic animals and more than 320 different species of plants. Open year-round, the Zoo is a constant source of conservation, education, and recreation.

The recently renovated petting zoo in the Children's Zoo section gives little ones an opportunity to actually touch the animals - including Ossabaw Island pigs, Karakul sheep, and chickens. Seasonal outdoor animal demonstrations, interactive stations, a well-stocked vegetable garden, and a suspended bridge over a peaceful pond are also on hand.

During the warmer months, a stroll through Lorikeet Landing may result in an exotic bird feeding right from a little outstretched hand.

The winner of our 2008 Parents' Picks quest to find the Best Day Camp for Teens in Buffalo, summer opportunities at the Buffalo Zoo include Zoo Teen Naturalists for kids ages 13 to 17 and day camps for kids ages five to 12.

Birthday parties at the Zoo are available to members only most Saturday and Sundays from 11am-1pm or 2pm-4pm all year long. The party includes a wild animal presentation and an activity that both relate to the theme for the birthday. Themes include Rainforest Romp, Sslithering sselebration, Fun Feathered Bird Day, and Barnyard Bash. The cost is $10 per child (minimum of 10 children). Call 716.837.3900, ext. 128 for more details or to make a reservation. Birthday parties book quickly, so sign up for membership and try to make a reservation at least one month prior to the desired party date.
