about Bunker Hill Monument:

This is the last stop on the Freedom Trail. If you've still got some energy left over by the time you get here, start climbing. The view of Boston at the top is worth it. And that's saying a lot, since you'll have to walk 294 steps to get to the top of the 221-foot obelisk. The monument marks the site of the first major battle of the Revolutionary War. It's here that the colonists were given the famous warning: "Don't shoot until you see the whites of their eyes."

getting there:

From Downtown Boston: Take North Washington St. to Charlestown Bridge and turn RIGHT at traffic light on Charlestown side of the bridge, onto Chelsea St. Continue straight on Chelsea St. to the second traffic light.Turn RIGHT at the second light into the Constitution Rd. parking lots. Public parking lots are on the right and left, approximately 50 yards from the traffic light. Taking a RIGHT at the THIRD traffic light on Chelsea St. will lead to the GATE FOUR vehicle entrance to the Navy Yard and park ranger-staffed Scale House official stop point. After Ranger Station STOP POINT, continue straight toward Building #5 (near the U.S.S. Constitution); parking is left on Pier 1. There is also parking next to the tennis/basketball courts near the Commandant's House.
