Busboys and Poets offers a restaurant, performing space, and bookstore all rolled into one hip, diverse package. The bookstore is run by the non-profit organization, Teaching for Change, so the selection features titles that promote peace and social justice in classrooms, communities, and the world, and anti-racist, anti-biased titles with an emphasis on multicultural viewpoints. The welcoming performance space hosts open poetry nights, meet the author events, local music, and more. Most events are geared toward an older crowd, but there are occasional events for kids. Menu items run toward comfort food and staples such as pizza, sandwiches, and salads. The prices are reasonable and there are child-friendly options such as pizza, burgers, and even a peanut butter and banana sandwich. Brunch is served on the weekends.
