about Byrd Park:

The 287-acre Byrd Park has three lakes, including Boat, Shields, and Swan Lakes, where visitors can picnic, jog around the perimeter, fish, or take paddle-boat rides (in the summer at Boat Lake). The park also offers tennis courts, Little League baseball fields, and a dog park.

It is home to the Christopher Columbus Monument and the Carillon, which pays tribute to Virginians who died in World War I. The grassy area in front of the monument hosts annual festivals as well as the annual fireworks show. Nearby is Dogwood Dell, a grass and stone amphitheater which holds 3,000 people and is home to many free summer performing arts festivals and concert series.
