Located at the spot where Meriwether Lewis and William Clark settled for several months during the winter of 1803-1804, Camp River Dubois is also known as the Lewis & Clark State Historic Site.
The expansive Visitors Interpretive Center highlights the Illinois stage of the journey with exhibits and a short film. Public tours of the grounds are conducted during business hours. The Store of Discovery sells books and souvenirs.
A 55-foot, full-scale replica of the keel boat used by Lewis and Clark is the central exhibition of the site. Other exhibits discuss the preliminary information and knowledge gathered on the land west of the Mississippi River and the preparations, expectations, and anticipations for the expedition.
