The West Side doesn't have a monopoly on parks with river views. Carl Schurz has a great playground (called Catbird) in this expanse of green, with equipment grouped for different ages. You'll find plenty of baby swings, four swings for older kids, sand and slides, and climbing structures for adventurous older ones. On warm days, there's sprinkler play for the damply inclined.
If you're not in playground mode, you can bring the bikes or in-line skates or just stroll along and take in the view.
