about Castlewood Canyon State Park:
Castlewood Canyon State Park is a nature-lovers paradise, perfect for hiking, photography, birding (the park is home to one of the largest Turkey Vulture populations in the state during the summer months).
Hiking trails are available for all skill levels and offer access to magnificent views of the canyon; more difficult trails take you down to Cherry Creek and along the canyon floor. Folks often head to the park to view the area's amazing rock formations, some of which are open to climbing. Individual or group picnic areas are also available.
The park staff hosts education programs throughout the year. Details for public programs and hikes are posted at various locations in the park and on the online calendar.
While visiting the park, inquire about borrowing a Family Activity Pack during your visit. The packs help turn an ordinary hike into a learning adventure in nature with two large bug boxes, magnifiers, various guide books (covering birds, insects, wildflowers, and pond or tree life), binoculars, and a nature journal.
tips:
Many animals call Castlewood home, and visitors need to be aware of occasional black bears, bobcats, and rattlesnakes that can be spotted on the trails.
