Cathryn Sullivan's Acting for Film3513

Can anyone help with finding a reputable agent in Dallas or LA, we travel between both. It is hard to know who to trust.

Would like to suggest that in the meet the agents seminar. Maybe the parents could ask a few questions after the child is finished. The grading sheets that didn't have additional comments weren't very helpful. More feedback is needed and would be appreciated. Thanks

Great teacher when she is teaching but half of the time some kids will be teaching and they just goof off. They also say 14 per class but end up 20 or more. It is $250 a class whether taught by kids or Cathryn herself, with 14 or 20. With so many kids in the class it is a lot of sitting around and observing and very little acting and no feedback for improvement from the teenage teachers. For the $ private lessons are more effective plus there are other great teachers in town that do not overload their classes and stick to 10-14 students max.

Cathryn is an amazing acting coach. I myself went to her classes for two weeks and have already improved so much! These classes are definatly not a waste of money! I love Cathryn and I havent gone to classes in a day and i already miss them so much!

My daughter is an working actor in L.A. right now. she was 14 when she started with Cathy and received a wealth of information about everything to do about acting. L.A. was not on the front burner until she thought you were ready. She spoke the truth about how hard it is and how you have to be prepared. Ben was a assistant teacher at the time and we loved him. My daughter is now 20 and still working hard to keep her dream alive, she credits Cathy's guidance and coaching as part of her success. For your child to get the quality coaching and personal time with the coaches, she can accept only a certain amount to achieve this. We love Sully,Ben and cody.

...My daughter was one of the kids who auditioned for Cathryn just over a year ago. She was blessed and made the cut. In the past year she has learn more from Cathryn than all of her other experience combined. She has just begun her first experience with her son Cody teaching a class. I must say how impressed I have been. His connection with the kids is incredible. He is frank and relates with them on a peer based level. My daughter has learned a tremendous amount from Cody and I am thrilled I finally was lucky enough to place her in one of his classes!

She is wonderful ,but I don't see why people are mistaking her. PLEASE trust me, she is one of the best in the business.It is well worth your time and money.

Top notch in every way...My daughter has taken acting classes on and off from Cathryn for years and loves them--she adores Cathryn's down to earth and warm style. The negative comments I read below could not be further from the truth - If anything, Cathryn is very modest about both her and her son's achievements. We are lucky to have these high quality (and fun) acting classes offered in our community.

Ms. Sullivan has first hand experience of what it takes for a child to succeed in the TV and film industry. My son has taken classes with Ms. Sullivan for three years. Our son wants to be a lifetime actor in TV/Film/Theatre. He is constant with this passion. Ms. Sullivan offers a very safe environment to explore the TV/Film side of this business. Parents can even view her class through a one way window. She teaches many working(paid)child actors/actresses. My son is not one of those. He does activities in the community which I still pay for. He is learning his craft so he will be prepared to succeed in his passion when the time is right for him. Ms. Sullivan's work with him is personal and meaningful to him. I don't know of anywhere else an experience like this is offered. My son holds the belief he can make it in the business of entertainment and is focused on the life long work it takes. Ms. Sullivan's classes and workshops are part of that work. He is fortunate to have accidently stumbled upon her classes.

I stumbled across this website while googling Every Body Fit's phone number. After reading the comments about Cathryn Sullivan, I was very taken by the unsatisfactory comments of the 2 moms. The more I stewed on them, the more upset I got. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but here's mine. My son has been taking classes for about a year with Cathryn Sullivan, we tried for over a year to get in. In the time spent w/ Sullivan, he has grown ALOT in his acting skills. She works with them on scenes they enjoy and she truly cares about her students. And the students love her. Cathryn is honest in her feedback, whether it is positive or negative. If you want your child to succeed in this business, as a parent you need to research this business. It is a tough business for a child and their family. You need to educate yourself and your child. You need to be able to take negative critism and use it to better your child actor. For those moms that bashed Cathryn, parents I think you may be getting your child into acting for the wrong reasons. This business takes time,patience and determintation. It has to be something your child wants to do; not you wanting to make money from your child. Cody Linley, her son, is NOT used a marketing tool for her business. I didn't even know who Cody was when we first were introduced to Cathryn Sullivan. Since she is highly recommended, she has to hold auditions. Auditions are just that, some make it and some don't. If she accepted every child that wanted to take acting classes, she wouldn't have the success rate she does. Cathryn takes pride in her work and her students. She also takes pride in her teachers and teacher aides, her reputation is important. She produces QUALITY students not quantity.I feel fortunate and proud that she is my son's coach and will continue to recommend her to others. If you are new to this business, I would recommend this book "Kids in the Biz" by Troy A Rutter. You can purchase it at Barnes and Noble. I also highly recommend, that before you post another bashing comment about any coach, agent, casting director or etc., that you get your facts straight. Best Wishes!

I am Cathryn Sullivan and had a student's mom send me this link who has sent in a comment, but whose comment has still not been posted yet. I was interested in the comments because I was surprised to see misrepresentations of my business with two of the comments. I also couldn't help notice that one of them was from a Mom whose child could not get into my program as I had 148 students auditioning for a spot and only 50 were allowed in...and not because I did not want her child. I only had a limited amount of spots left for new students and I couldn't take all of them. My credentials are so much more than community theater. I took professionally for many years and was an aide for several years to the best pro teacher before teaching myself. I've been on over 40 sets coaching one or several students on sets. I also taught well before my son, Cody Linley was even born. In fact,I took 14 teens to LA back in 1989 that I helped get agents for and drove to auditions, callbacks and jobs (including Barry Watson from the TV show 'What about Brian') while I was PREGNANT with Cody. Also, Cody has been a teacher's aide for 5 years and just got his own classes within the last 5 months. He has been in almost a dozen movies (features and TV) and several TV shows and the fact that he is willing to teach others how to obtain success and share his love of acting is something we ARE proud of. He is an active part of our program and we are proud to have him. My classes are also not considered expensive by industry standards.I'm told by many people that I should raise my rate, but I want to keep them to where everyone can afford them. Both Dallas and LA agents recommend my program and recommend me as a coach who produces results. There are many of those results posted on my website at Everybody Fits. I have several students who are regulars on Disney shows right now and those who have leading roles in feature films and who have commercials airing right now. I also don't offer seminars that I wouldn't have my own son take. Most of my students think that is an asset. I love actors and I have a very successful program that produces results and I welcome those who are really serious about learning the craft of acting.

My child has successfully utilized the skills and techniques she has learned in these classes. Cathryn not only imparts the necessary acting skills, but she is also very knowledgable about the film industry. She stays current with the trends in LA and is able to guide and prepare her students to compete with the best. Cathryn is personally invested in her students and takes the time to customize the direction according to the needs of each one. Her classes help children build confidence and skills they'll use for a lifetime and she has had many students who have landed film and TV jobs. She also provides LA exposure for Dallas area actors via the talent she coordinates and brings to the Metroplex.
