About Centennial Lakes Park

This 24-acre manicured park features a lake, over a mile of stroller-friendly paved paths, a shrubbery maze, miniature golf, rental pedal boats, lawn bowling, croquet, and an amphitheater hosting free entertainment during the summer. Swinging wooden benches line the shady paths.

In the winter, the lake becomes an enormous (and free) ice skating rink, with skates, Norwegian ice sleds, hot chocolate, and snacks available for a fee in the Park Centrum Building, which is open to the public as a warming house complete with restrooms and fireplaces.

In warmer weather, fishing is allowed and spectators can watch the remote-controlled vessels of the Edina Model Yacht Club ply the placid waters.

The Maetzold Amphitheater at the south end of the lake hosts performances all summer, with noon events most Tuesdays and Thursdays especially for kids. (That series of free shows continues indoors at Edinborough Park September through May.)

Tips

Paddleboaters who steer close to the geyser fountain at the north end of the lake should be prepared (or have permission!) to get very wet - a whirlpool effect makes it hard to get away from the spout once you're near it.

Getting There

Located behind Centennial Lakes Plaza, extending beyond 76th Street to the south and Parklawn Avenue to the north. Plenty of free parking is available on the lower level of the ramp that runs between the two sections of the shopping center.

We haven't used the park in the summer, but we've had lots of fun skating this winter. The warming house is comfortable and the people are friendly. The pond is a wonderful place to skate. We go after school, and it's never been crowded. My 4-year-old likes the trainers that they rent for $4 - it's like a walker that helps him stay on his feet. I was unimpressed with the skates they rent - they sharpen the blades, but flat across, not curved like they should be. Even so, we happily used them for a few outings, decided we liked skating, and bought our own skates after that.
